Utility fleet tracking. Logs only where needed.

TenTrucks brings utility fleet tracking to power, gas, water and telecom crews: real-time GPS tracking, substation geofence alerts and ELD logs only where needed.

ELD COMPLIANCE

Logs for the few who need them.

Most line and tower crews are exempt from logs, so you set ELD, electronic logbook or Not required person by person.

  • Keep linemen and on-call techs off logs entirely
  • Put the long-distance pole hauler on the ELD
  • Mark each person as CDL or non-CDL

GPS FLEET TRACKING

See every crew on outage night.

When half the county is dark, the real-time map shows every truck and checks Weather Service warnings against crew positions every 5 minutes.

  • Replay yesterday's routes for mutual-aid billing
  • Get storm alerts at the distance and severity you pick
  • Send the host utility a location link that expires

GEOFENCE ALERTS

Know when trucks reach every substation.

Nobody should have to call around to find Bucket 14, so geofences around substations, yards and staging areas record every arrival and departure.

  • Get arrival and departure alerts, checked every 30 seconds
  • See time on site by truck and by location
  • Send geofence events to your own systems by webhook

MAINTENANCE

Service by engine hours, not just miles.

A bucket truck runs more hours at the pole than on the road, so TenTrucks plans preventive maintenance from real engine hours.

  • Plan service by engine hours, miles or days
  • Turn every reported defect into a work order
  • Get alerts for engine fault codes and low fuel

DRIVER SAFETY

Coach unsafe driving before it costs you.

Your bucket trucks carry the utility's name, so driver scorecards flag harsh braking, hard acceleration, sharp turns and missed seatbelts.

  • Coach each driver from their own safety score
  • Get speeding alerts from 1 to 50 mph over the limit
  • See idle time for every truck in one report

Do your utility trucks need an ELD?

Look at the work the truck is doing that day: the same digger can be exempt on Monday and need a log on Thursday.

Your truck or driverELD needed? In plain words
Bucket truck restoring power inside your service areaNoUtility repair work in your own territory is outside the driving-hour rules entirely: no logs, no limits, no ELD.
Tower or fiber crew maintaining cell or broadband lines in the service areaNoTelephone, cable TV, broadband and cellular work are named in the utility exemption.
Contractor's truck doing the same repair work for a utilityUsually noThe exemption looks at the truck's work, not the name on the door or who owns it.
Crew sent out of state to help after a stormUsually noOccasional emergency trips outside your area are covered, and a declared emergency adds relief of its own.
Truck hauling poles or transformers from a supplier far outside your territoryDependsThat's not repair work in your area, so normal rules apply. Within 150 miles of the yard as the crow flies and back within 14 hours, no log is needed.
New fiber build with no existing linesDependsThe exemption covers repairing, maintaining and running service, not building new plant, so get an opinion first.

General federal rules, not legal advice. Your state may add its own.

What TenTrucks doesn't do

Better to read this now than during the first storm. TenTrucks is utility fleet management software for your trucks, not an outage system. It doesn't decide who is exempt or keep track of emergency declarations. Someone in the office sets each person and changes it when the work changes. It doesn't read power take-off (PTO) or boom sensors, and generators and tools without a TenTrucks ELD don't show on the map. Only circle geofences trigger alerts.
