ELD for hotshot trucks. Logs done, load delivered.
Looking for an ELD for hotshot work? TenTrucks gives hotshot drivers an FMCSA-registered phone app with hours warnings, roadside transfer and miles by state.
Know your hours before the next load.
A hot load can't wait while you count hours, so the app counts down your driving, workday, break and weekly time.
- Get a warning 30, 15 and 5 minutes before a limit
- Set each driver as CDL or non-CDL
- Keep logging with no cell signal, even in airplane mode
Get through a roadside check fast.
Pickups with a gooseneck get pulled in for checks too, so inspection mode shows the officer your last 8 days in a few taps.
- Lock the screen to your logs with a 4-digit PIN
- Send the official file to FMCSA by web or email
- Open breakdown instructions right in the app
Show the customer where the load is.
Hot loads come with “where are you?” calls, so you can send the customer a link to watch the truck on the map.
- See your truck on a live map, updated every 15 seconds
- Send tracking links that expire when you choose
- Replay any trip to settle arrival-time questions
Count miles by state without a notebook.
Heavier hotshot rigs often need IFTA, so TenTrucks counts your miles in each state from GPS and reads your fuel receipts.
- Build IFTA reports from GPS miles by state
- Snap a receipt and get date, vendor, amount and gallons
- Get an alert before registration, insurance or permits expire
Keep the pickup earning, not parked.
A hard-working dually wears out fast, so TenTrucks reminds you before service is due and flags engine faults.
- Plan service by miles, days or engine hours
- Turn a check-engine fault code into a repair order automatically
- Log inspections with photos of each problem
Does your hotshot rig need an ELD?
Federal rules look at your pickup and trailer together. They use the weight rating on the door stickers, or the real weight if it's higher.
| Your truck or driver | ELD needed? | In plain words |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup and trailer together under 10,001 lb, rated and loaded | No | It's not a commercial vehicle under federal rules, so no logs. |
| Pickup and trailer together 10,001 lb or more, crossing state lines | Yes | You need a USDOT number, a medical card, hours limits and logs. |
| Together 26,001 lb or more, with a trailer rated over 10,000 lb | Yes, plus a CDL | That's a Class A combination, so the driver needs a Class A CDL. |
| Non-CDL driver within 150 miles as the crow flies, back at the yard each day | No | Finish within 14 hours, or 16 hours on 2 days a week. Keep time records for 6 months. |
| CDL driver within 150 miles as the crow flies, back within 14 hours | No | No logs, but keep time records for 6 months. |
| You need logs on 8 days or fewer in any 30 | No | Paper logs are fine on those days. |
| Your pickup was built before model year 2000 | No | Check the model year in the VIN. |
| You only haul inside one state | Check your state | Federal rules cover trips across state lines. Each state sets its own rules for in-state work. |
General federal rules, not legal advice. Your state may add its own.
What TenTrucks doesn't do
It doesn't find loads for you, and it doesn't plan routes. It doesn't import fuel card transactions either, so you add fuel by receipt or by hand.
It doesn't send logs by USB cable or Bluetooth. It sends by web or email, which the rules allow, and the officer can always read the screen.
The ELD and the TenTrucks TMS for booking loads and invoicing are separate products today, so your hours don't show up in dispatch. See ELD pricing: $19 per truck per month.
