Government fleet tracking for public works.
TenTrucks brings government fleet tracking to city, county and public works fleets: real-time GPS, geofence alerts, idle time reports and preventive maintenance in one app.
Know where every city truck went.
When a resident says nobody plowed their street, real-time GPS tracking and trip replay show exactly where the truck drove and when.
- See every equipped vehicle's location on a real-time GPS map, updated every 30 seconds
- Replay any trip street by street, with times and speeds
- Share one vehicle's location by a link that expires when you say
See how long crews spend at each site.
When a supervisor asks why a 40-minute job took three hours, geofence alerts and a time-on-site report give you the answer.
- Get geofence alerts when trucks reach or leave the yard or salt dome
- Know time on site by vehicle and by location
- Send site events to your own systems by webhook
Cut idle time before budget season.
A truck left running through a two-hour job burns the department's fuel, so TenTrucks alerts the office while it still runs.
- Get idle alerts in the app or by email
- See idle time for every vehicle in one report
- Send reports on a schedule, like every Monday at 7:00
Service trucks by engine hours, not guesswork.
A sewer jetter or a standby plow runs without going anywhere, so TenTrucks schedules service on real engine hours.
- Plan preventive maintenance by engine hours, miles or days
- Turn every inspection defect into a work order automatically
- Spot problems early with engine fault-code and low-fuel alerts
Know which trucks are in the storm.
Road crews often learn about an ice storm from the first call, so TenTrucks checks National Weather Service alerts against your trucks every 5 minutes.
- Get alerted when a truck is inside a weather warning
- Set a distance from 0 to 200 miles around each truck
- Choose how severe a warning must be before you hear about it
Coach driver behavior with real scores.
A city truck driven hard reflects on the whole department, so TenTrucks scores each driver on harsh braking, hard acceleration, sharp turns and seatbelt use.
- Coach drivers from their own safety score
- Get speeding alerts from 1 to 50 mph over the limit
- Download an insurance report for your risk manager
What is government fleet management?
It's how public agencies run the vehicles they own: where they are, how they're driven, when they're serviced and what they cost. Government fleet tracking is the GPS part, showing each vehicle's location in real time and where it has been. Together they help a public sector fleet answer residents, plan maintenance scheduling and defend the budget.
Do your trucks need an ELD?
Federal driving-hour rules mostly leave government work alone, but not every driver in your yard is a government driver.
| Your truck or driver | ELD needed? | In plain words |
|---|---|---|
| City or county employee in a pickup | No | Trucks driven by government employees on government work don't need logs or an ELD. |
| City employee in a big dump or sewer truck | No | No ELD, but a truck over 26,000 lb needs a driver with a commercial license. |
| Plow driver for a small town | No | Same exemption, and some states can waive the commercial license in a snow emergency. |
| School bus on home-to-school runs | No | School runs have their own exemption, but bus drivers still need the right license. |
| Private contractor hauling for the county | Usually yes | The exemption covers the government only, so the hired company follows the normal rules, including the local-driving exemption. |
General federal rules, not legal advice. Your state may add its own.
What TenTrucks doesn't do
We don't hold federal security approvals (FedRAMP, or CJIS for law enforcement), a GSA schedule or a cooperative purchasing contract, so if your purchasing rules require one, we're not the vendor yet. TenTrucks doesn't read plow, spreader or power take-off (PTO) sensors, and there's no public plow map for residents. Only vehicles with the TenTrucks device show up. Drug and alcohol testing stays with your testing provider.
